Gareth Whiting is a London based artist of Welsh background. He works in paint, screen print and collage, often exploring how the different properties of all three might interact. Following study at the City Lit London and Central St Martins from which he graduated in 2016, Gareth now explores a number of different themes, from personal responses to the Welsh landscape and his extensive music collection to the relationship between colour and language. He has a long standing interest in the dynamic relationship between past and present and the limitations of trying to reconstruct the past with the fragmentary information we have. Gareth’s work is held in a number of private collections in the UK.

Recent work includes a series of collages responding to the changing shoreline and weather conditions on Anglesey and a group of apparently familiar but ultimately remote ancient faces. Layering, paint effects, composition and combining disparate elements with varying textures and weights form an important part of the work.
